Situation + Task

The goal was to reverse-engineer a small motor, recreate its geometry in CAD, and revise its transmission design using standard parts while validating load-bearing capacity.

⚙️ Action

  • Disassembled the motor and measured key components (gears, shafts), generating free body diagrams for mechanical analysis.

  • Reconstructed the complete motor system in SolidWorks, and simulated its motion and loading conditions.

  • Used Python to perform stress and torque calculations for transmission elements.

  • Generated a detailed Bill of Materials (BOM) and selected off-the-shelf components to match the revised design.

  • Co-authored a technical report summarizing mechanical improvements and system insights.

📈 Result

  • Delivered a revised, fully modeled transmission system with improved modularity and reliability.

  • Technical documentation was well-received and used as a learning aid for future design projects.
